While we excitedly wait for the building to be finished, we remain very active!
Over the last two months we have set up 33 (yes, 33!) warm clothing/blanket stations throughout the community. Large boxes or bins, filled with coats, hats, and blankets were placed in strategic locations to support those at the highest risk for suffering in the cold winter temperatures. Literally, hundreds of community members, many without a place of residence, took advantage of the extra warmth. And our special thanks goes out to the several churches and individuals who provided the massive number of donations!
At the same time wonderful progress continues to be made on two major fronts: the completion of renovations and the search for a workforce development chocolate production manager.
Even though the pandemic has wreaked havoc with our (and everyone else’s) time table, all of the major work is done. Next steps are to finish the smaller items and then apply for our use and occupancy permit before getting ready for permitting for the chocolate kitchen. See the pictures below of the nearly completed stairwell.
At the same time, we are in the middle of an encouraging interview process with candidates to complete the staffing we will need to begin the workforce development process once we are ready to open.
Please continue to keep the Sandtown-Winchester community in your regular thoughts and prayers and, as always, consider walking with us, through your support.
