We are finding opportunities in the midst of the social distancing guidelines to serve people in the Sandtown-Winchester community, providing food for those who have none, helping other get connected to supportive services, and bringing God’s peace in the midst of the storm. Thanks to the generosity of several people, we delivered bags of food to 28 households today and had extra tuna, peanut butter and beans to share with those in need, and ready to eat food for those who are truly homeless and have no where to prepare anything.
The Sandtown-Winchester community has very limited access to food stores and with the public transportation now restricted to essential personnel during the COVID-19 crisis, many families and older citizens are not able to shop for groceries. The closest grocery store that may have fresh food requires walking at least 15 blocks, and the shelves are practically empty.
