Everyone hopes for a chance!
More than 4,500 people in the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood of Baltimore, MD have found hope and encouragement in navigating some of life’s struggles. Faith and Work Enterprises is disrupting poverty one person at a time.
Since 2017, Faith and Work Enterprises has been encouraging people and providing connections to a variety of supportive services such as housing, food, legal, disability and parenting support; drug treatment; education and employment opportunities, and more.
Our message of hope is based in Jesus, and we are honored to speak words of hope to people in the community every day! God’s grace is overcoming the disappointment this community has experienced in the past, where agencies (including churches) have made promises and not followed through.
________
Meet Angel – a young mother who fled an abusive situation with a couple small bags of clothing, one stroller, and her three young children. People in the community promised that we could help her, so she sat on the front steps of our building with her children waiting for Miss Redd, our Assistant Executive Director.
LeChelle Redd assisted her in securing space in a shelter for one night as she explored other longer-term assistance. A network of generous people provided for a next night in a hotel… and then God multiplied in the way that only God can… the hotel manager arranged for her to stay for the week, compliments of the hotel. Other generous donors provided clothing and toys for the children. This provided the time needed to secure an ID for mom and get the kids registered in school. Within one week we were able to identify an apartment for rent where God’s generosity showed up again and the Landlord charged her no rent for the first 4 months!
With some space to breathe, encouragement through prayer, and the connections to resources, Angel just secured a job with Amazon and is now well on her way to being able to stand on her own and care for her young family. The kingdom has come near and this family tasted God’s goodness rather than thinking God had forsaken them.
